Summary
1hVIVO is a London Stock Exchange–listed (AIM: HVO) full-service clinical research organisation and the global leader in human challenge trials. With more than a century of combined heritage in clinical research and infectious disease, hVIVO partners with global pharma, biotech, and emerging biotech clients to deliver early-phase clinical development across the UK and Europe. Their integrated platform spans clinical trial delivery (Phase I to III), specialist laboratory services, drug development consultancy, participant recruitment, and biobanking — supported by purpose-built quarantine facilities and one of Europe's largest specialist volunteer databases (400,000+).
Following the acquisition of CRS in January 2025, hVIVO brought four previously separate brands — hVIVO, Cryostore, CRS, and Venn Life Sciences — under a single unified identity. They needed a new digital flagship that matched the scale and ambition of the integrated business.
BFJ Digital delivered a full design and HubSpot CMS build: 100+ pages, 15 templates, 30+ custom modules, a HubDB-powered Insights engine, and a dedicated investor zone — all in a 10-week turnaround on a project that would typically run six months or more. The site was built as a system hVIVO's own team could populate, and they migrated the full content library themselves.
The Challenge
2- Unify four brands under one digital flagship. Post-acquisition, hVIVO, Cryostore, CRS, and Venn Life Sciences had to come together under a single identity. The new site needed an information architecture that made one integrated business legible — without duplicate or orphaned content from four legacy structures.
- A 10-week timeline at enterprise scale. A 100+ page enterprise site of this complexity typically runs six months or more. Hitting 10 weeks meant rethinking how discovery, design, and build run together rather than in sequence.
- Build for the client to drive. hVIVO's team was handling content migration themselves. The brief shifted from "build a finished site" to "build a system the client can populate" — every module had to be authorable without breaking the design.
hVIVO needed a scalable platform that unified the business, served distinct audiences, and put content control in their own team's hands — delivered fast.

3BFJ Digital designed and built a full HubSpot CMS ecosystem aligned to hVIVO's unified brand, audience pathways, and in-house publishing needs.
Key website elements delivered:
- Full design and HubSpot CMS build of a 100+ page enterprise site.
- 15 page templates including Solution Hub, Solution Detail, Sector, Therapeutic Area, Insight, Event, and Investor.
- 30+ custom modules covering mega menu, mega footer, filterable Insights grid, event listings, leadership and team grids, stat blocks, solution category cards, and publication cards.
- A HubDB-powered Insights engine with multi-filter taxonomy across publications, articles, events, webinars, workshops, and on-demand content.
- A dedicated investor relations zone with results centre, share price feed, governance documents, and AIM Rule 26 content in compliant, easy-to-update locations.
- A module library designed for self-service, so hVIVO's in-house team migrated all content themselves.
Website UX, IA & Design
- IA-led discovery: a unified information architecture mapped across all four legacy brands before a single screen was designed, giving everyone a clear sitemap to design, build, and migrate against.
- Clear pathways for distinct audience groups — pharma, biotech, CROs, start-ups, and drug development investors — alongside participants and shareholders.
- A focused set of 15 templates underpinned by 30+ reusable modules, so new pages spin up in minutes.
- Editor experience baked into every module: clear field labels, sensible defaults, helper text, and flexible layouts so authors compose pages without breaking the design.
HubSpot Development
- Custom mega menu and mega footer architecture.
- HubDB tables for events, publications, and articles, with categorisation and filtering powering the Insights library and event calendar (in-person, webinar, workshop, on-demand).
- Templated structures for new solutions, sectors, and therapeutic areas.
- Parallel workstreams from week one — IA mapping alongside visual design, module development starting on confirmed templates before the full design system was signed off.
- Quality gates at each stage: weekly client reviews to keep approvals moving, with every module tested across breakpoints and QA'd for accessibility and SEO before handover.
